Irretrievably Broken
BY Irma Fritz
Publisher: Irma Fritz
How does one generation come to terms with the crimes of another? Irretrievably Broken is the haunting, funny, and heartbreaking account of German ex-patriots Nora, Ruth, and Bettina Adler. The plot takes us across the U.S., to the bush country of Canada, and to a cold case murder scene in Germany as this multicultural family deals with diversity and racism. The novel is populated with unforgettable characters in a sometimes shocking and always unflinchingly honest exploration of the past. Nora is obsessed with her Native-American husband she’s about to divorce and consumed with guilt over a friend she may have caused harm; Ruth, whose blunt statements are often inappropriate, witnessed a brutal murder and saved a life during the Holocaust; and 12-year-old Bettina, the mixed race child of an African-American and a white German, is devastated by the death of her mother and neglect of her father. Irretrievably Broken is a novel of family and friendship, of love and loss, of guilt and forgiveness, of faith tested and affirmed.

OscarGate
by Martin Kaynan
USA
Publisher: PublishAmerica
OscarGate has drama, eroticism, violence, romance and a lot of New York individuality in describing the hostile takeover of a Hollywood movie studio by an industrial conglomerate and the adverse impact of its authoritarian Management Style on artistic personnel. Four Academy Award winners object to the arbitrary rejection of a script they strongly believe in. The script is about four brothers, in New York City, who are in direct competition with each other manufacturing the same product. They team up with their studio's Executive Producer who is violently opposed to the new owners heavy-handed Management style, which includes installing cameras in his office to monitor everything he sees, says and does. This is based upon my own experience. He also strongly believes in the script and is willing to risk his career to have it made into a movie. They create their own Production company and meet with ex-New Yorker clubs all around the country to help finance their project. During a suit by their former employer for Breach of Contract, the credibility of their testimony is in jeopardy until a chance event turns everything upside down into a dramatic, and - yes - exciting conclusion. The inevitable trial is everything the reader expects it will be. Charges and counter charges, perjury and latent violence are all the ingredients of a can't put down segment of the story. One of the main characters in the story is the movie industry's reigning Sex Goddess, the world's biggest box office draw. Her character is truly a memorable one. Stunning and sensual, she surprises the team by demonstrating outstanding movie directorial ability and exceptional financial acumen as well. Her testimony, during the trial, especially the attempted rape scene, can be only described as unforgettable. She is a remarkable package; a vamp, the girl next door, a movie director and a business executive all in one - with a Mensa level IQ and a classic New York street wise mouth to top it all off.
